Play. Originally published by L'instant même and Ex Machina in 2016. Includes the poem: Speak white by Michèle Lalonde. An incursion into the world of memory, this powerful monologue is born from the childhood memories of Robert Lepage, with the backdrop of the great social upheavals of the sixties. Years later, the author and man of theater plunges into the heart of memory and questions the relevance of certain memories. Why do we remember the telephone number of our youth, while we forget the current? How does a childhood jingle pass through time and remains full in our minds, when the name of a loved one escapes us? Why does some information persist, while other, more useful information, steals away? What are the mechanisms? How does a personal memory echo in the collective memory? What about oblivion, the unconscious, this memory that fades away over time and whose limits are compensated by digital storage, virtual memories? All these questions are distilled in a story in which Robert Lepage exposes to the spectator the throes of an actor who -- by definition, to survive -- must remember, first the text he has to say before us, but also of its past, and the historical and social reality it inherits, and where it fits. The book also includes the full text of Michele Lalonde's poem Speak White, reproduced with her permission, and a preface by Denys Arcand. In addition to the book, a free mobile application allows you to interact with certain illustrations and live an augmented reality experience. The 887 application is available on iPhone and iPad.--Translated from publisher's web page. |
