Giuseppe Fidotta is a PhD student in Film and Moving Image Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema and a Part-Time PhD Lecturer at Concordia University in Montreal. Prior to joining Concordia, he obtained a PhD from the University of Udine with a dissertation on Fascist documentary culture and empire building in 1930s Horn of Africa. For his current dissertation, he is conducting a media-ethnographic project on mafia media culture and its effects upon local civil society in Western Sicily Giuseppe has published essays on media geography, the planetary imagination of the essay film, Italian colonial cinema, film historiography, and student film culture in 1950s Italy. He also co-edited an anthology on media archaeology in Italian, a special issue of NECSUS: European Journal of Media Studies on mapping and the media, and a special issue of Culture Machine on media populism |
