Applied Theology, University of Oxford (2007); Doctoral researcher, Dept. of History, Univ. of Birmingham (2013) Stuart Bell is an Honorary Research Fellow of St John’s College, Durham University and a minister of the Methodist Church. He gained his first degree in Computer Science in the days of punched cards and paper tape, after which he lectured in that subject for seven years. Training at Fitzwilliam College and Wesley House in Cambridge for the Methodist Ministry followed, and he has since served churches in Brighton, Horsham, Southampton and Nottingham. His dissertation for his Oxford MTh examined the influence of the Great War on one group of Anglicans, while his PhD thesis looked more widely at the war’s impact on the faith of ordinary people in Britain. Stuart Bell has written widely about religion during and after the Great War, and his particular interests include the theology of the famous chaplain Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy (also known as 'Woodbine Willie') and also Arthur Winnington Ingram - the wartime Bishop of London who has been maligned by many writers in the last 50 years |
